📖 THE NARRATIVE: What Happened at Nova
October 7, 2023 — the desert air outside Re’im was thick with basslines and starlight. Thousands gathered at the Nova Music Festival, dancing under psychedelic banners to mark the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah.
It was 6:30 a.m. when the sky split open.
More than 3,000 rockets screamed overhead from Gaza. At first, some thought it was part of the light show.
Then came the gunfire.
Armed Hamas militants descended from motorized paragliders and pickup trucks. They moved with surgical cruelty — spraying bullets into tents, vehicles, even the desert air as people fled into the brush.
